Do you like running with compression socks, but aren’t completely sold on how ‘compressing’ those socks are on your calves and toes? If so, then I think you should give the Legend Compression Performance Socks a try. With their graduated compression technology they have compression done right not tight, #rightnottight.

Legend Compression Wear was started in August 2015, with the company’s mission being ‘to improve the performance of every athlete – from the casual jogger to the competitive triathlete’ and ‘to help individuals extend the life of their legs through graduated compression technology.’ The compression level used in these performance socks is 15-20 mmHg (millimeters of mercury), which represents a moderate or therapeutic compression level. With over 30 years of medical background, including experience in medical compression, they believe that this level of compression is more effective during exercise than a more firm, or tighter, compression sock. Additionally, these compression socks have an open toe bed, meaning they still give you the ability to wiggle your toes. This product is also manufactured right here in the United States in North Carolina!

Some additional features of the compression performance socks, as stated on the packaging, are:

  • Graduated Compression for improved athletic performance
  • Greater power output
  • Enhanced Endurance
  • Increase oxygen levels and blood circulation
  • Reduce muscle fatigue exertion & soreness
  • Faster recovery time
  • Seamless toe & comfort sole construction

Compression socks are used by athletes as a way to enhance performance through increased circulation and blood flow in their legs. They are also used as a post-run recovery tool to aid in discomfort, fatigue, and swelling. All of these were reasons I started using calf length compression socks and a reason why I was looking forward to testing the Legend Compression Socks.

I have tested these socks on multiple runs over the last month. The shortest run was 3 miles and the longest of these runs was 6.5 miles. My running varied from running on a treadmill to running on a paved trail, and from running in warm weather to running in the rain.  Under all of these conditions I didn’t have any ill effects to wearing these compression socks.

Here are my key takeaways from testing the Legend Compression Performance Socks:

  • Easy to put on
    • At no time while putting these socks on did I feel like I was going to rip them. If you are familiar with compression socks, then you know what I mean. I still used my normal method of putting these compression socks on, but everything about this process just seemed easier. (My process is to fold the upper half of the sock inside out at the heal and over the bottom half of the sock, slip the bottom half of the sock over my foot, then turn the upper half that was inside out back to normal and up and over my calf)
  • Wiggle room in the toes
    • I made a conscious effort while running to pay attention to this. There was definitely room for me to move my toes back and forth in my shoes while running without any restriction.  This is different from other compression socks I have used where the compression runs the length of the socks.
  • Not as restricting (less compression) but still stay up and do the job
    • This could be seen as a benefit or a hindrance depending on who you are asking. I know certain people love the feel of tight compression in their socks and I also know people who have refrained from wearing compression socks due to issues they have with the level of compression. For me, I am fine with either option, and had no complaints at the level of compression in these socks.
    • Legend Compression does make a recovery sock that has that higher level of compression if that is what you are into, but I did not test those socks.
  • Great solid color choices
    • I must say, these colors are great!! They have hit all the staple colors you could ask for, but still managed to make them bright and vibrant, and lets be honest, when you wear calf level compression socks, you want the benefits of compression, but you also want to look good!!
      • These colors include Aqua, Black, Blue, Lavender, Pink, White, and Yellow
  • Good fit (I am a size 10.5 shoe and the size large socks fit great)
    • The sizing appeared to be right on based on their websites sizing chart. I was able to get these socks on easily enough, and they provided the right level of compression and held their shape during each of the runs I wore them on.
  • 30 Day Satisfaction Guarantee
    • If you are new to compression, or thinking of trying a pair of socks that aren’t as compressing as others, why not give Legend Compression Wear a try, especially with their 30 day satisfaction guarantee!

These compression socks are build to give compression the right way that isn’t overly tight on your calves but still gives you all the added benefits of wearing compression socks. I would have to say that they hit all the marks with these socks!!

  1. I do love how easy these were to put on. That’s one thing I dislike about many compression socks, I love when they’re on, but they’re a pain to get there.
